Hi, I'm Katelynn

I am a creator, designer, and developer continuously improving my craft to create better human-centered technology that supports a diverse and inclusive future in the industry.

The blend of my passion for computer science, human-centered design, and visual art propels considerations for innovative ideas and how they might enhance current projects. I dream big and enjoy the balance and learning that comes with group work to practicalize ideas. Due to my strong work ethic and meticulous attention to detail, I bring a lot of passion to every project and fall into deep rhythms with my work.

What do I bring to the table: a B.S. in computer science and a minor in innovation and design as well as extensive extracurricular experience in STEM tutoring, human-centered design research on social robots (Project EMAR), and leadership roles in diversity centered organizations such as Girls Who Code, Girls Rock Math, and the Women in Computing Sciences. I am currently seeking roles within companies that share my value for projects which overlap human-centered design and programming and are also committed to promoting diversity and inclusion in the technology industry.

Why Computer Science, Human-centered Design, and Visual Art?

My first introduction to computer science was through the Girls Who Code organization. The welcoming experience presented coding as an exciting and impactful new way to create. As I journeyed through obstacles in my career path, I reflected on that representative space. The support I received developed a core value for diversity and inclusivity within the technology industry and motivates me to bring my best work into the industry.

Through Girls Who Code I was introduced to the human-centered design social robot Project EMAR. The way this project combined coding and design expanded my thinking. As I have learned more and practiced designing, I believe design thinking will improve every aspect of my work and help me create technology that has a more positive impact on my communities.

Unlike my passions for programming and human-centered design which came later in life, being an artist has always been a part of my identity. Aside from the personal joy it brings me to visually document my different views of the world, I also seek to spread this joy. As a working artist, I sell prints and original clothing designs, and do commission work. A long-standing dream is to fund a community art gallery.
